Joe Dana is an American journalist currently working as a watchdog reporter and anchor for 12News and part of the 12News I-Team.
Through his 12-year career, Dana has won reporting awards in print and broadcasting, including two first-place awards from the Division Nine Society of Professional Journalists. He was also the field reporter for a 2013 Emmy Award-winning 12News Today newcast and a 2015 Emmy Award-winning special report on military healthcare.
Joe is a fourth-generation native of Arizona, having grown up in Glendale. Dana began covering news in the valley as a teenager, youth reporter for The Arizona Republic, and newspaper editor at Apollo High School in Glendale. Joe studied at Georgetown University’s Institute of Political Journalism after graduating from high school. After graduating from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in print and broadcast journalism, he worked in Washington, D.C., for the Conservative News Service before joining the 12News staff.
Joe has written about everything from capital murder trials to financing for education. He has also studied immigration in southern Arizona and polygamy in northern Arizona. Joe feels his primary responsibility as a journalist is to hold politicians and other influential people accountable for their deeds.
Dana resides in the northwest Valley with his wife and two sons. Joe volunteers as a mentor and serves as an ambassador for the New Pathways for Youth mentoring program in his own time. Additionally, he supports Phoenix first responders’ treatment for PTSD.
