Mark Tamayo is an American Emmy Award-winning journalist and the Chief Meteorologist at KTVU FOX 2 News based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He joined the station in 2008 and was officially named Chief Meteorologist in May 2025, succeeding the legendary Bill Martin. A native of the Bay Area, Mark is highly regarded for his science-based approach and calm demeanor while tracking Northern California’s complex weather patterns. 

Mark formerly worked as a meteorologist at KRON 4 in San Francisco. His career has been entirely focused on California, with previous roles at KSBW in Salinas and his very first job at KVIQ in Eureka. Over his 15-plus years at KTVU, he has earned a reputation as a trusted voice for viewers during major environmental events. 

During his extensive tenure, Mark has provided critical coverage of some of the region’s most significant natural disasters, including the 2014 Napa Earthquake and the 2017 North Bay wildfires. His excellence in weather broadcasting has earned him three Emmy Awards, including wins for Best Weather Segment and his contribution to breaking news coverage during the Napa earthquake. 

Mark grew up in the North Bay, specifically in Corte Madera. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he earned a degree in journalism, before returning to the city to complete a degree in meteorology at San Francisco State University. This unique dual background allows him to blend storytelling with deep scientific analysis. 

In his spare time, Mark is a true outdoor enthusiast who enjoys surfing at local beaches, riding his mountain bike on Mt. Tamalpais, and salmon fishing. He often shares his love for the “infinite adventures” found in the Bay Area, from exploring small towns to visiting parks with his family.
