Elizabeth Macdonald is an American journalist currently working as the host of FOX Business Network’s The Evening Edit with Elizabeth Macdonald (weekdays 6-7 PM/ET). She joined the FBN’s family in September 2007 as stocks editor.
Before joining FBN, Elizabeth was a senior editor at Forbes Magazine where she covered the IRS, corporate accounting scandals, Washington, D.C., and created The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women annual list.
Before joining Forbes, MacDonald covered corporate accounting scandals, the IRS, taxes, and Washington, D.C. for The Wall Street Journal, where he wrote front-page articles, Heard in the Street columns, and editorials. In the mid-1990s, MacDonald was among the first journalists in the country to warn of the impending flood of accounting scandals. MacDonald also broke stories about the Church of Scientology’s secret settlement with the IRS, the Kennedys’ use of the IRS to target and audit political enemies and thousands of groups and individuals, including Fair Play for Cuba, which was linked to assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, and allegations of political audits during the Clinton administration.
Elizabeth formerly worked as a financial editor for Worth magazine and for Money Magazine, where he covered the IRS and taxes. MacDonald reported an award-winning investigative series on IRS abuses, which resulted in better taxpayer rights and IRS reforms. MacDonald’s IRS reportage prompted two congressional hearings on IRS reforms and taxpayer rights.
MacDonald has received 14 awards, including the Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business Journalism (and a nomination the following year), the Society of Professional Journalists Award for Outstanding Public Service Reporting, and the Newswomen’s Club of New York Front Page Award for Excellence in Investigative Journalism.
Elizabeth is also the author of the book and play “Skirting Heresy: The Life and Times of Margery Kempe” (Franciscan Media, June 2014).
