Coco Jones is an American singer, rapper, songwriter, and actress. She rose to fame for her role as Roxie in the Disney Channel movie, Let It Shine. Disney also features her on the radio program Next Big Thing, or N.B.T. She also portrays the role of Hilary Banks on Peacock’s reinterpretation, Bel-Air.
Jones started performing at a very young age. Her first theatrical appearance was during her kindergarten graduation, and at the age of six, she performed America the Beautiful. Jones met with Disney casting directors when she was nine years old, and from 2010 to 2011, she appeared on Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, but she shot to notoriety after playing Roxanne Andrews in the 2012 Disney Channel film Let It Shine. Jones was fired from Hollywood Records in January 2014, allowing her to become an independent artist. On August 29, 2014, she released a video for her debut independent single, Peppermint.
Career
Jones pursued a career as a recording artist, releasing her self-titled debut extended play in 2010. She signed with Def Jam Recordings in 2022 and achieved commercial success with the release of her single “ICU” in October of the same year. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, earned platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. The prize was one of five nominations she got at the 66th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. That same year, she was cast in the lead role of the Peacock comedy series Bel-Air (2022-present). Her previous awards include a BET Award and an NAACP Image Award.
In 2011, she made a cameo appearance on the Disney Channel’s television series So Random! In 2009, she was chosen to perform live on “The Most Talented Kids” episode of the Maury Povich Show. Jones finished second in the third season of Radio Disney’s The Next Big Thing singing competition in 2010.[8] Shortly after, she launched her debut album Coco Jones, and embarked on a concert tour dubbed UBU-Stop the Bullying, which focused on anti-bullying themes.
Jones starred as Roxie in the Disney television film Let It Shine in June of 2012. In 2012, the film was the most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie as well as the most-watched movie of the year for children and tweens. Jones and the rest of the Let It Shine ensemble performed at the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Awards Nominees Luncheon before the film’s release.

Coco obtained a record deal with Hollywood Records and began collaborating with Grammy-nominated producer Rob Galbraith on new original songs. Jones’ debut track “Holla at the DJ” premiered on Radio Disney on December 6, 2012, and was released on iTunes the following day. The track’s video premiered on the Disney Channel on December 12, followed by a VEVO premiere shortly thereafter. Her extended play Made Of premiered on March 12, 2013, and she toured with Mindless Behavior later that year. Jones performed with Mindless Behavior at Radio Disney’s Radio Disney Music Awards and won the prize for “Funniest Celebrity Take.” After releasing the EP, Jones worked in the studio with David Banner, Ester Dean, and Jukebox, with hopes to release her debut album by August.
Jones’ Hollywood Records contract was terminated in January 2014. Jones released a lyric video for her debut independent single “Peppermint” on August 29, 2014. It was publicly available on iTunes on September 4, 2014.
Jones appeared in a Fanta commercial in July 2017. Jones appeared in the 1950s-era jazz film Flock of Four in April 2018. In September of the same year, she released the song “Just My Luck” along with its music video. On September 3, 2019, Jones released a song titled “Depressed”. On September 20, 2019, she released an 8-track EP called H.D.W.Y.
Jones was revealed in August 2020 to participate in the upcoming holiday film White Elephant as well as the horror flick Vampires vs. the Bronx.

Jones was cast as Hilary Banks in Peacock’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a reinvention of the show, in September 2021. The series would eventually broadcast in February 2022.

Her major label debut single “Caliber” was released on March 25, 2022, and it served as the first single for her major label debut EP What I Didn’t Tell You. Jones released the deluxe edition of her EP on January 20, 2023, featuring “Simple” as well as three new tracks. Jones’ track “ICU” peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, marking her maiden Billboard entry. It later reached number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jones released “Love is War” on all streaming platforms on February 10, followed by a Spotify-exclusive cover of Leon Thomas’s “Until the End of Time” four days later.
Jones sang the National Anthem on the first night of WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 6, 2024.
