Adrian Holmes is a Welsh Canadian actor, well known for his best performance on the Bravo television series 19-2 for which he won a Canadian Screen Award in 2017. He is also known for portraying Philip Banks or Uncle Phil in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot Bel-Air and also for Robert April in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Holmes has had a long career, but he is most recognized for his television performances as Basqat on Smallville, Marcus Mitchell on True Justice, and Frank Pike on Arrow. His most noteworthy role is Nick Barron in Bravo’s English-language adaptation of 19-2. He received a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role in 2017. His filmography includes Red Riding Hood, Elysiu, and The Cabin in the Woods.
Adrian was cast as Uncle Phil in the 2021 television series Bel-Air, which is a reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Will Smith gave him his stamp of approval. He was recently cast as the first live-action version of Robert April, the first captain of the USS Enterprise, in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. (April had previously appeared as an animated character in “The Counter-Clock Incident,” the final episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, voiced by James Doohan.
Prior to beginning his acting career, he attended Langara College to study nursing. He made his acting debut in 1991 with Twist in the Wind.
