Kyra O’Connor is an American journalist currently working at 12News to write daily news stories about the local communities in the Valley and across Arizona.
O’Connor, a digital journalist, joined 12News in 2023 after graduating from Elon University with a degree in journalism and business. She receives a bachelor’s degree of arts in Journalism with a minor in business administration from Elon University.
Kyra was the executive director of Elon University’s student-run news network for two years and held a variety of other leadership positions during her tenure at Elon News Network. In North Carolina, O’Connor covered local politics, and the housing crisis in Alamance County, and produced numerous profiles of local individuals and businesses.
She has worked for both local and national media, including Ms. magazine and News21, a fellowship offered by Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Daily in Phoenix, O’Connor looks for local, fascinating, and unusual stories to share with the 12News audience.
One week before starting high school, I covered my first presidential debate. Since that frenetic day in the spin room, I’ve continued to tell tales about the 2016 election season, a community farm for Burmese refugees in Chapel Hill, and the fight for a faculty union at Elon University. As a multimedia journalist, I wish to continue serving my community and telling stories.
